Technology Development Scientist (Molecular Biology)

Fluidigm Corporation, an innovator in the microfluidic market, is dedicated to delivering the promise of microfluidics through the commercialization of complete and enabling microfluidic systems that impact mission critical objectives within life science research. Fluidigm uses a proprietary process known as Multi-Layer Soft Lithography to fabricate Integrated Fluidic Circuits. We are currently looking for a highly motivated professional to join our team.
Position Summary: Invent and develop novel applications for use with existing and new Fluidigm technology platforms.
Essential Duties include:
- Development of new assays, and implementation of existing (e.g. commercially available) assays, to deliver new capabilities using existing Fluidigm technology platforms (e.g. Dynamic Arrays and Digital Arrays).
- Development of new assays and implementation of existing assays to work with new Fluidigm chips and instruments.
- Work with the team to invent and demonstrate novel new applications enabled by Fluidigm’s core technology.
- Reagent sourcing, assay proof-of-concept, characterization, debugging; design of experiments; reagent and protocol development, sometimes to commercial release.
Qualifications: (experience, skills, education etc.)
Essential:
- Molecular biologist with broad experience in standard molecular biology techniques, including nucleic acids, proteins and cells
- Proven winner in the lab
- Demonstrated ability to independently run experiments; analyze data, interpret results and modify procedures, and maintain records of all experiments
- Experience with device/instrument development (individually or as part of a team)
- 2+ years experience in assay development and commercialization
- Ph.D. or equivalent in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry or Chemistry
Desired:
- Experience with immunoassays, PCR, other nucleic acid amplification techniques, and/or other homogeneous assays for which microfluidic miniaturization would be enabling.
- Working knowledge of optics, electronics, and/or microfluidics.
- Desire to work in a high performance start-up environment with a special emphasis on rapidly reducing new ideas to practice
