By | April 28, 2009

The Broad Institute cultivates an interdisciplinary, goal-oriented work environment that unleashes scientific creativity, empowering its employees to pursue ambitious and critical projects. The dynamic, collaborative atmosphere allows the brightest professional scientists to uncover mysteries of genomic medicine. The work at Broad Institute transcends traditional boundaries and provides access to a dynamic and unique biomedical research community, with faculty drawn from Harvard, MIT and beyond. Employment at Broad offers a comprehensive employee benefits program.

The Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard seeks TECHNICAL ASSISTANT, to design and perform bench-level experiments and small projects that support the overall research objective of an integrative computational and experimental lab in a fast-paced and dynamic environment. Will interact with members of various Broad platforms to ensure proper experimental design, analysis, and technical concerns are met; organize workflow and change methodologies to optimize work results; and communicate effectively with staff at all levels. The focus of experiment and types of techniques employed will vary with group priorities.

This research group recently identified a new class of mammalian genes that exert their regulatory influences on the genome in unknown ways. Their goal is to identify the function and mechanism of this new class of gene. A highly motivated individual is sought to oversee a large-scale RNAi screen, in collaboration with the RNAi platform at Broad. This will involve regular maintenance of mouse embryonic stem cells and other mammalian cell lines. Other experiments could include various molecular biology experiments with quantitative PCR, shRNA production, chromatin immunoprecipitation, RNA immunoprecipitation, and gene cloning.

REQUIREMENTS: a bachelor’s or master’s degree in biology or related field and a minimum of two years’ experience in a research laboratory (preferably an independent project) or a master’s degree and at least one year of directly related, full-time lab experience; familiarity with basic molecular biology and sterile techniques and with the operation of standard lab equipment; excellent communication, organizational, time management, and project management skills; and ability to work in a fast-paced environment. Familiarity with mammalian tissue culture a plus.
