TECHNICAL ASSISTANT (Cambridge)

The Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard seeks a TECHNICAL ASSISTANT, Genome Sequencing and Analysis Program (GSAP), to advance the high-throughput epigenomics goals of the program. This includes performing mammalian tissue culture, chromatin immunoprecipitation, library construction, and quality control procedures; assisting scientists in developing new methods and workflow processes; and participating in collaborative, cross-team and cross-group experiments and projects. Duties include preparing and culturing a variety of mammalian cell lines and primary cells; monitoring cell density, morphology, and viability; conducting cross-linking, cell lysis, chromatin shearing, immunoprecipitation, DNA/RNA/protein purification, quantization, quantitative PCR, and library construction procedures; assisting with bench experiments to develop new methods and initiatives for optimizing current workflow processes, creating new processes and technologies and troubleshooting blocking issues; accommodating shifts in team goals and modifying priorities on the basis of changing workflow; troubleshooting laboratory equipment and reagents; documenting and compiling data, preparing and presenting reports, communicating progress, and blocking issues effectively; maintaining detailed laboratory notebook and log books, tracking all samples, and updating results in appropriate databases; and performing other tasks as necessary.
REQUIREMENTS: a bachelor’s degree in biology or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience; proficiency with cell and molecular biology techniques, including sterile techniques, mammalian cell culture, immunoprecipitation, DNA/RNA purification and quantization, quantitative PCR, and the operation of lab equipment; ability to perform with minimal direction and supervision; knowledge of related computer systems; strong communication skills and ability to interact collaboratively with all staff levels; and demonstrated ability to record, maintain, and retrieve accurate and detailed laboratory records. Must demonstrate efficient organizational and time management skills and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
