Staff Research Assocociate I

Overview:

This laboratory is interested in studying the alveolar epithelium and its role in various disease processes, including lung injury, pulmonary infections, and cystic fibrosis. The incumbent will provide the primary technical support for the studies performed in the laboratory. Ideal position for applicants interested in entering the medical field. There will be an opportunity for first authorships on publications.

Responsibilities:

Perform laboratory experiments as assigned and ensure compliance with written protocols.

Perform animal surgeries (mice/rats) to obtain tissue or to isolate primary cells for use in experiments.

Perform light microscopy of cultured cells and tissue sections.

Perform molecular and cell biology techniques including PCR, ELISA, Western blots, RNA/DNA extraction, plasmid preparation, and basic cell cloning.

Perform mouse husbandry and handling, including injections, genotyping, and serum collection.

Be able to perform cell culture, including preparation and maintenance of cell lines, freezing and thawing of cell suspensions, and media preparation, in addition to being versed in sterile technique.

Perform data analysis, including performing written reports detailing results of experiments and analysis of results.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

BA/BS in biological/biochemical science or related field

At least one year of research experience

Ability to work under minimal supervision

Strong interpersonal, organization, and oral/written communication skills

Computer literacy with an emphasis on MS Office; Adobe Photoshop skills a plus.

Strong attention to details and accuracy.
