Staff Research Associate II (inner sunset / UCSF)

Incumbent will conduct experiments to study tumor blood vessel formation and invasion. The incumbent will conduct basic molecular and cell biology experiments such as PCR, immunohistochemistry, cytochemistry, and tissue culture. Experimental studies will be carried out with cell lines and tumor tissue of orthotopic and transgenic tumor mouse models. The incumbent will also maintain the laboratory with responsibility for purchase of lab supplies and equipment, track expenses, manage cell line stocks and tissue bank, oversee equipment repair and maintenance, handle daily lab issues, and perform other duties as assigned.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES::

Required: BS or equivalent in Molecular Biology/Biochemistry, and one or more years of recent, directly related work experience after degree completion, demonstrating technical expertise in the areas required by the position, or an equivalent combination of education and experience; previous experience in molecular biology and cell biology techniques (PCR, immunohistochemistry, cytochemistry, and cell culture); proficiency in Mac computer programs including Word, Excel, and Photoshop; Ability to work independently and as part of a team; Meticulous record-keeping skills; Excellent communication organizational skills with ability to multi-task; must be personable, communicative, and eager to learn new techniques.

Preferred: Knowledge of Filemaker Pro is desirable; previous supervisory and lab management experience; willingness to train other employees.
