Staff Research Associate I
UC Berkeley – Main Campus
This position is in a research laboratory in the department of Molecular and Cell Biology at UC Berkeley. The focus of the lab is on genetic differences between individuals, both in the S. cerevisiae model system and in humans, that perturb regulatory networks.
The successful candidate will conduct molecular biology and genomics research in collaboration with students and postdocs. S/he will also serve as the lab manager of our research group, so s/he must enjoy taking on a leadership role in the organization of the lab.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and carry out protocols for transcriptional profiling using new high-throughput sequencing technologies
- Ordering and setup of lab supplies and equipment
- Train new lab members
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in biology-related discipline, with a minimum of three years’ laboratory experience in yeast molecular biology
- Highly motivated and responsible
- Excellent communicator who enjoys working as part of a team
- Leadership skills in the lab and experience as a senior technician with high-level responsibilities
- Human cell culture
- Nucleic acid isolation for genomic applications
- PCR, DNA oligonucleotide construct and plasmid preparation; sequencing
- Use and maintenance of pipetting robotics
- Experience with Unix computer operating system a plus (preferred).
