Staff Research Associate I

Overview:
Position Definition:
The position is assigned to study growth activation pathways, prepare samples for spaceflight and to facilitate the overall operation of the Laboratory of Cell Growth.
Knowledge of some of these skills is desirable.
Responsibilities:
Perform molecular and cell biology techniques including western blotting, quantitative PCR, ELISA, Western Blots, 96 well fluorometry assays, fluorescent microscopy, cDNA microarrays, grow and transfect plasmids
Perform promoter region analysis and illustration
Perform experiments to verify molecular pathways
Breed colony, genotype, and perform protocol on transgenic mice
Collect, analyze, and manage data including data entry and verification
Perform data analysis; produce written reports detailing results of experiment and analysis results
Assist with preparation of manuscripts detailing research findings and prepare graphics for publications
Perform routine laboratory experiments ensuring compliance with written protocols
Prepare mammalian cell cultures; maintain tissue culture incubators
Prepare biosafety protocols, and make sure laboratory is in compliance with all safety and protocols
Perform supply ordering/maintenance and equipment maintenance; perform additional general laboratory management duties assigned
Perform other related duties assigned
Qualifications:
BA/BS in a biological science or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Basic related scientific techniques and procedures as learned from laboratory or field experimental experience.
Ability to learn new computer programs
Basic knowledge of medical research methods and related technology
Working knowledge of safety standards in laboratories
Computer literacy (Macintosh and PC-compatible) with emphasis on MS Office, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Olligo, and DNAsis program
Strong interpersonal, organizational and oral/written communication skills
Ability to manage multiple projects, tasks and priorities to achieve desired goals is an absolute must
Must be able to travel to Cape Canaveral for experiments.
