Staff Research Associate I Pulmonary (richmond / seacliff)

NCIRE - the Veterans Health Research Institute - is a self-funded private nonprofit research institute, established in 1988 to administer health research at the San Francisco VA Medical Center. Our mission is to advance veterans health through research. We are the largest nonprofit research institute associated with the Department of Veterans Affairs. We conduct research in many fields, including mental health, neurological disease, cardiovascular disease, cancer, bone disease, infectious diseases including HIV, and improving patient care.
Responsibilities:
Satisfactorily complete laboratory-based experiments as directed by the Principle Investigator and maintain detailed records of experiments including a laboratory notebook.
The incumbent will be responsible for immunocytochemistry and confocal fluorescent microscopy studies, Western blotting, co-immunoprecipitation, basic DNA/RNA isolation, PCR, and cloning; maintenance of cells in culture. Responsibilities will also include small animal (mouse/rat) experiments and maintaining mouse breeding colonies.
Assist with the coordination and distribution of research results and related tasks, including statistical analysis of data, literature reviews, table, figure, and slide preparation, and manuscript editing.
Perform general laboratory management, including ordering supplies and maintaining laboratory equipment.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
BA/BS with a degree in the biological sciences or related field and/or experience with the basic techniques required by the position or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience in a basic biological sciences laboratory environment.
Experience with immunocytochemistry and working with a confocal microscope.
Experience with Microsoft Office (Excel, Powerpoint, Word) and statistical procedures.
Must be organized, demonstrate a high level of initiative, be able to keep accurate and detailed records, be willing to learn new techniques, and take ownership and responsibility of assigned duties and tasks.
