Senior Scientist – Molecular Assays (San Diego)

Our client, a world-wide provider of innovative life science research products, is seeking a highly motivated individual with expertise in molecular assays for the position of Senior Scientist – Molecular Assays.
You will be responsible for building a platform of nucleic acid-based assays, and will identify and commercialize cutting-edge molecular assay technologies.
Required Technical Skill Set
The following technical skills are required of the Molecular Assays Senior Scientist:
- demonstrated success in developing and commercializing assays for gene expression profiling
- demonstrated success in developing and commercializing assays for profiling the impact of siRNA and miRNA on gene expression
- expertise with planar and bead-based nucleic acid arrays
- expertise with statistical tools utilized for analysis of micro array data
- expertise with advanced PCR methodologies
- strong working knowledge of bioinformatics tools for analysis of signaling pathways
- working knowledge of strategies to create cDNA expression libraries is desired
- familiarity with microfludic platforms is desired
- strong verbal and written communication skills
- strong analytical and critical thinking skills
- effectiveness in working collaboratively on multiple projects
Qualifications and Specific Requirements
The ideal candidate will hold a degree in molecular biology, biochemistry, cell biology, genetics, or closely related field. Required years of experience is dependent on the type of degree:
- masters degree and 4-6 years of industrial experience
- Ph.D. and 0-2 years of industrial experience
The Molecular Assays Senior Scientist should be recognized as an expert in the field of biochemical assays of molecular biology. He/She is expected to design experimental strategies and interpret results in a largely independent manner. At the same time, the Molecular Assays Senior Scientist is expected to actively contribute to a highly collaborative team structure.

* active participation in team and company meetings, including communication of experimental plans and results
* represent the Molecular Biology R&D Team at project meetings with the Business Development and Operations
* technology transfer to Operations
* authorship of technical articles for Company trade publications
* submission of invention disclosures; contribution to the intellectual property portfolio of Company
* presentation of Company technologies at national meetings and customer sites
* hold a good awareness of industry trends
* maintain detailed and accurate documentation of R&D activities
* maintain laboratory equipment
* conduct all activities in accordance with Company safety policies
