Scientist, Assay Discovery (Microbiology/Biochemistry) (Cambridge, MA)

Cequent Pharmaceuticals, Inc (www.cequentpharma.com) is an early-stage pharmaceuticals start-up. We are currently seeking an experienced Scientist or Post-Doc (PhD or MD/PhD preferred) with a strong biomedical research background to conduct research in microbiology, assay development/discovery, and interface with clinical manufacturing. Experience in animal models of HPV and/or gene therapy approaches are a plus. The successful candidate will carry out Cequent’s preclinical research efforts for our platform technology, tkRNAi, and assist in the development of the early stage clinical trials across multiple indications. Experience with RNA interference (RNAi) is a plus and molecular biology techniques including but not limited to: ELISA, PCR, cloning, DNA, RNA extraction, Western Blot, RNA, FACS, cell culture, and restriction digest. Ability to switch gears rapidly in an entrepreneurial environment.

He/She reports to the Associate Director, RNAi Research.

Responsibilities:

• Design and conduct research for the microbiology group

• Select, develop and validate novel targets and assays for RNAi-based therapy

• Work in close collaboration with molecular biology, bacteriology and in vivo groups. Will work in cross-functional teams and lead QC/QA efforts

• Present results at department and outside scientific meetings

• Supervise team of research associates

Qualifications:

• MSc or PhD or MD/PhD with 3 – 6 years research experience in microbiology

• Strong in vivo animal background,

• Self-motivated, independent scientist,

• Excellent organizational and communication skills,

• Strong understanding of scientific processes and biologics manufacturing,

• Molecular biology experience
