Summary:
Fluidigm has an opening for a Sales Application Scientist to support the Companys next product line. In this position, the successful candidate will join Fluidigms sales and marketing team as technical expert on Fluidigms BioMark product line for pre-sales support. The Sales Application Scientist will become intimately familiar with the BioMark System, its companion products, and its applications. The position offers an opportunity to do laboratory work as well as interact with customers and various internal Fluidigm groups.
Function:
Travels with Sales Representatives and independently to provide technical consultation in order to close orders and to provide prospective customers with technical information which assists them with their purchasing decision. Travels to customers’ laboratories to provide start-up training and technical guidance for specific Biomark products. Gathers information about technical trends to support development of selling strategies and future products.
Essential Duties: The sales application position (pre-sales) includes the following responsibilities:
- Support sales and marketing efforts of Fluidigms new BioMarkTM product line.
- Practical sales experience, understanding of the sales process and ability to influence customer buying decisions
- Team with sales representatives to deliver on plan
- Generate or collect experimental results needed for marketing and sales presentations or other collateral
- Spend time with sales and customers presenting products and solutions, features and benefits, analyzing requirements, recommending solutions
- Ensure that demonstrations Designs and executes lab experiments to produce data and create technical seminars to present live demonstrations at key customer sites.
- Provide system demonstrations and provide answers to questions from prospective customers.
- Provide technical expertise with regard to potential new market, applications and competition
- Ability to leverage technical expertise to consistently deliver on sales targets
- Sales lead discovery through data mining, seminars
- Coordinate with R&D on efforts to improve system performance and increase the breadth of supported applications.
- Accompanies Sales Representatives on sales calls in customers’ laboratories to provide technical and applications assistance in response to customer enquiries.
- Supports conditional sales placements in the field through on-site visits and telephone communication. Provides follow-up communication with Sales Representatives or customer.
- Reports on activities in the field on a regular basis to manager through written reports and regular telephone conversations.
- Reports on technical trends going on in the territory by relating customer concerns and issues to the appropriate people in the company.
- Prepares and presents seminar potential customers and employees as requested.
- Provides technical training to sales representatives.
- Collaborates with sales representatives to develop technical selling strategies.
- Attends scientific meetings gathering information of new trends, products and discoveries.
- Works in trade show booths to present products and gather information and support field marketing activities.
Minimum desired qualifications, experience and skills required:
- BS in biochemistry, molecular biology, or related life science
- Preferred Masters or Ph.D. in Biochemistry or Molecular Biology or related discipline
- Ability to present high level technical seminars.
- Several years laboratory experience in a life science setting; experience using real-time PCR, TaqMan reagent design, real-time PCR instrumentation, and assay development and SNP Genotyping
- Demonstrated capability to independently design, plan, and execute experiments
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot
- Productive with a high level of initiative and self motivation
- Strong communication (written and presentation) and strong team player
