Job Purpose:
The purpose of this job is to support the systems development of a new molecular diagnostic tests on a newand instrument platform. The selected individual will conduct and lead testing and evaluation of reagents involving multiple molecular methods/techniques. The selected individual shall interface with development scientists and the platform development team. This individual will work a second shift from 2 pm to 10 pm. Initial training will be conducted on first shift for approximately 2 weeks.
Responsibilities:
Responsible for independently performing routine and unique tests involving DNA/RNA extraction, purification and amplification.
FollowEstablish procedures or protocols required to perform experiments. These may include preparing reagents for nucleic acid extraction, reverse transcription and PCR reactions, basic tissue culture, and/or cell separation methods,growth and maintenance of bacterial and tissue culture cells and other laboratory methods/techniques associated with molecular biology such as: purifications; quantitative and qualitative analyses.
Duties include the extraction of DNA or RNA from a variety of specimens for use in PCR analysis. Amplification of DNA and RNA and analysis by real time PCR and, electrophoresis , blotting, hybridization, and interpretation of hybridization patterns may be involved.
Maintains accurate data records.
Complies with biohazard safety standards through proper handling of potentially hazardous chemical and biological agents in the workplace.
Uses universal safety precautions to protect self and co-workers from biohazardous materials, including blood-borne pathogens.
Prepares solutions, reagents, and stains.
Monitors inventory levels, orders materials and supplies in accordance with established policies and procedures, counts orders upon receipt.
Qualifications:
A minimum of bachelor’s degree (B.S. or B.A.) in a scientific discipline, or medical technology.
Two or more years of clinical/diagnostic lab experience outside of school is preferred
Experience utilizing instrumentation is preferred
Expertise in the following areas is considered a plus: assay development, real time PCR, microbiology, virology, cell culture, fluorescent chemistry and nucleotide chemistry.
Must be able to work independently, taking work direction and following procedures
Must be proficient with MS Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint)
Must be able to work second shift (2 pm to 10 pm)
