Research Technician (SOMA / south beach)

By | September 4, 2008

A full-time research technician job is available in the El-Samad lab at the University of California, San Francisco in the new Mission Bay Campus. The El-Samad lab works on understanding the mechanisms by which variability is regulated in the control gene expression, with special emphasis on stress responses.

Start date: As soon as possible

Job Description: The job will involve the use of molecular biology/biochemistry techniques for assisting in projects pertaining to the lab’s focus on studying stochastic behaviors in gene regulatory networks. Duties will include the construction of various mutant strains in the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae, and the study of epistatic relationships between mutants at the single cell level using state-of-the-art imaging devices and flow cytometry. Future work will involve helping with the development of computational methods to analyze networks of interactions between proteins identified from the genetic experiments.

Qualifications: Applicants should have an undergraduate degree in the biological sciences (biology, biochemistry or related fields).

Applicants should also have had exposure to standard molecular biology techniques, particularly recombinant DNA technology involving DNA isolation, molecular cloning and PCR methods. Basic background in the molecular biology of Saccharomyces cerevisiae (yeast), such as experience in genomic recombination methods, is highly preferred. Also, familiarity with computer programming is highly recommended.

Applicants should submit their resume and cover letter. The Resume should include the names of references.
