Description:

We are seeking a highly motivated, organized individual to work on the molecular and cellular basis of human leukemias. This project may involve the testing of candidate drug compounds in vitro on leukemic cell lines and in vivo using the zebrafish model system. This position requires knowledge and experience in: (i) recombinant DNA techniques including RT-PCR, PCR, DNA and RNA purification, plasmid cloning; (ii) cell biology techniques including mammalian cell culture, expression of recombinant DNA in mammalian cells by transfection, electroporation and viral transduction; and (iii) analysis of proteins by western blotting. This research will also include tasks involving embryo microinjection, organ dissection, developmental staging of embryos, phenotypic screening and analysis. Analysis of zebrafish will involve molecular biology and genetic techniques, site-directed mutagenesis, whole-mount in situ hybridization, immunohistochemical and apoptosis assays. In addition to participating in this project the selected candidate will share responsibilities with other technical staff including: purchase ordering, organization and maintenance of plasmid and frozen cell storage and associated databases, preparation of general reagents such as stock solutions, buffers, bacterial plates, and some work maintaining a zebrafish colony involving daily maintenance, feeding, tank/filtration maintenance and fish husbandry animals in the mouse colony and for the general maintenance and organization of the laboratory. BA/BS in Biology or related field is preferred. The candidate must be a responsible individual with strong communication, organizational and interpersonal skills. A working knowledge of computer skills and data management is an asset. A two year minimum commitment is required.
