Research Technician (Boston)

Job Description:
The Howard Hughes Medical Institute currently has an opportunity for a Research Technician to join Dr. Tom Rapoports laboratory in the Department of Cell Biology at Harvard Medical School.
Dr. Rapoports group works on understanding the molecular mechanisms by which proteins are transported across membranes and how organelles form and maintain their characteristic shapes.
The Research Technician position provides excellent opportunities for continued scientific learning and development. It is an ideal role for a candidate who is interested in pursuing graduate or medical school after working 2-3 years in the laboratory.
We are seeking a highly motivated individual who will utilize a wide range of approaches, including molecular biology, biochemistry and cell biology techniques, to support the groups efforts and carry out an independent project.
Responsibilities:
Performing protein purification, crystallization, transfections and protein analysis.
Performing PCR subcloning, electrophoresis, ligation reactions and other molecular biology techniques.
Attending and presenting at laboratory meetings and journal clubs.
Ordering supplies and maintaining laboratory equipment.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Bachelors degree in biological sciences.
Prior research laboratory experience.
Excellent organizational skills.
Ability to work independently.
