Research Assistant/Associate I – UCSF/VA Medical Center (richmond / seacliff)

Job summary: The successful candidate will join a molecular and cell biology laboratory studying the cellular and viral mechanisms underlying skin cancer and novel therapeutic approaches for skin cancer. Under the supervision of the Prinicipal Investigator and other senior lab personnel, the research assistant/associate will: 1) Plan and perform experiments utilizing techniques of biochemistry, molecular and cell biology, and process the resulting data; 2) Provide general laboratory support (maintain common lab reagents and equipment, order supplies). Initial appointment will be for 11 months with continuation contingent on satisfactory performance and funding.

Required Qualifications: BA/BS in a relevant biological or chemical science with significant laboratory course work. Excellent ability to be organized and self-motivated, to think critically and independently, as well as to interact and communicate well with others.

Preferred Qualifications: Evidence of prior scientific research experience in molecular and cellular biology, such as use of PCR, blotting techniques, mammalian cell culture, and experience with cutaneous biological systems.
