Research Assistant II/III: Molecular Biology (south san francisco)

VistaGen Therapeutics, Inc. is a biopharmaceutical company developing breakthrough drugs for disorders of the Central Nervous System (CNS) and diabetes. We apply our innovative in vitro embryonic stem (ES) cell technologies to discover and develop new generation drugs and protein biologics, both internally and through strategic collaborations with the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries. VistaGens ES cell technologies are being applied to the development of drug discovery screens in the diabetes and neurological disease markets, as well as providing human ES cell-based heart and liver cell assay systems for applications in pharmaceutical toxicity testing. Our lead drug candidate, AV-101, is in late-stage preclinical development for epilepsy and neuropathic pain.
VistaGen seeks an experienced Research Assistant II or III for our Molecular Biology group. This individual will be responsible for executing a variety of cloning projects required to support various functional genomics assays as well as the development and characterization of engineered cell lines. The successful candidate will have significant experience performing standard molecular biology cloning, PCR, and analytical techniques, will be highly motivated, a strong team player, and enjoy the excitement and potential of a smaller entrepreneurial environment.
Requirements for the position:
B.S. or M.S. in the biological sciences.
At least two years of experience performing molecular biology techniques, including: plasmid construction and purification, PCR for plasmid cloning purposes, RNA isolation and purification, reverse-transcription PCR, and PCR from complex genomic backgrounds.
Strong communication abilities, excellent record-keeping skills, and attention to detail.
Proficiency with spreadsheet word processing and other data management tools.
An ability to work in a team-oriented, multidisciplinary entrepreneurial environment.
Experience in these skills would be highly desirable:
Experience with real-time PCR.
Experience with cell culture.
Experience with mammalian gene transfer techniques (i.e., plasmid transfections and viral transduction techniques)
