Process Development Chemist

BioPhase Solutions specializes in recruiting top talented professionals for San Diego’s Scientific community. We are currently looking for a Process Development Chemist to work for a leading San Diego pharmaceutical company.
Qualifications:
-B.S. in chemistry with a minimum of 12 years or M.S. in chemistry with 9 years of related industry experience or Ph.D. in organic chemistry with related experience
-A solid understanding of synthetic organic chemistry and process chemistry with excellent laboratory and productivity skills
-Thorough experience in handling, synthesis, purification, and characterization of complex organic molecules using the latest techniques
-Working knowledge of modern synthetic methods, spectroscopy, analytical techniques, and scale-up equipment
-Experience with process research/route scouting as well as process development
-Experience in a kilo-lab or pilot plant setting, including a cGMP environment
-Familiarity with project management tools
-Experience in managing chemical development projects
-Demonstrated independent thought/creativity in science
-Good communication skills and an ability to interact constructively with colleagues in other disciplines
-Direct manufacturing experience and experience in the management of outsourced projects preferred
Job Responsibilities:
-Independently plan and execute experiments for assessing and improving synthetic routes to APIs in support of projects that are in preclinical development through early clinical development
-Develops novel and efficient process chemistry strategies and coordinates research strategies and activities with team members
-Perform thorough process research through creative route scouting with the goal of route selection within aggressive timelines
-Prepare gram to kilogram quantities of APIs, intermediates, impurities, reference standards, and manage such activities at CROs
-Assist in project management and represent department as necessary in team meetings
-Provide support for off-site manufacturing activities
-Where appropriate, present/publish scientific findings in peer-reviewed journals and conferences
-Promote and ensure a safe atmosphere for operations in the process chemistry laboratories
-Regularly report details of experimental chemistry and the progress towards goals for management
-May mentor Research Associates
