Mouse Colony Manager (Cambridge)

MIT is searching for a qualified candidate to help streamline animal use in a large lab. The lab currently has over 800 cages of mice with at least 30 different genotypes. This position is responsible for the daily upkeep (NOT cleaning/feeding) of the research rodent population with a primary focus on mouse breeding. Related areas of responsibility include; maintenance of genealogies, tagging of mice and tissue harvest, sexing, mating and typing of normal, mutant, transgenic and gene-targeted mice using PCR. Additionally, will lead the lab in implementation of a computerized system for tracking all users and lines. The software is a free version of software called JAX Colony Management System. Experience in this software will be a major plus. Ability to handle diverse work environment is needed along with confidence to enact changes. 2-3 years of experience in a research setting using rodents, along with a minimum of a BS. Experience running gels and genotyping also important. Position may evolve to include such things as minor lab management, ordering/organizing of supplies or working on small, guided research projects under PhD supervision.
