The mission of the Palo Alto Institute for Research and Education, Inc. (PAIRE) is to facilitate research and education activities conducted at the VA Palo Alto Health Care System (VAPAHCS). The range of research activities is broad and includes special emphasis on biomedical, health services, rehabilitation engineering, mental health and geriatric research endeavors. We also support various educational instruction or other learning experiences of benefit to employees and veterans.
PAIRE, a nonprofit foundation affiliated with the Veterans Affairs Palo Alto Health Care System (VAPAHCS), is seeking a Life Sciences Research Associate I to assist in the execution of experiment procedures and analyses proposed in a NIH R21 grant and to help with other research activities in the laboratory.
The ideal candidate will possess a BS degree or higher in the field of Biology/Biochemistry. Experience with animal surgery is preferred as well as a background in basic vascular biology.

Duties:
Conducting experiments in accordance with specific guidelines;
Tissue sample preparation; immunohistochemical staining;
Tissue homogenization, western blot analysis, PCR, mRNA expression;
Isolating, purifying, and culturing various cells; conducting experiments in mice in vivo and vitro, as required, including animal surgery;
Performing various molecular biological techniques;
Maintaining detailed lab notes regarding experiment outcome;
Assisting with general laboratory maintenance and compliance with regulations regarding health and safety issues.
Requirements:
Be able to understand, read and write in English;
Has basic vascular biology background;
Be able to function and carry out experiments independently with the help of a senior research associate and the PI;
Familiar with cell culture techniques;
Familiar with various molecular techniques including but not limited to PCR, Elisa, Western Blot, histology analyses;
Experience with animal surgery is preferred;
Understand and be able to perform basic statistical analyses.
