Laboratory Assistant II (SOMA / south beach)

The Howard Hughes Medical Institute, a scientific and philanthropic organization devoted to biomedical research and scientific education, is seeking a laboratory assistant for a biochemistry/cell biology laboratory at the University of California, San Francisco. In this position you would have the opportunity to participate in a team research effort focused on biochemistry to produce and crystallize recombinant proteins.
Principal Responsibilities:
Create DNA constructs by PCR-cloning
Growth and harvest of yeast for recombinant protein expression
Protein purification
Protein crystallization screening
Maintenance of lab equipment
Discuss individual research results with fellow post-doctoral researchers and graduate students within the lab
Requirements:
B.S. or B.A. degree in an appropriate field, or equivalent with education and research experience
Possess analytical and organizational skills
Knowledge of molecular biology and biochemistry is preferable
