Lab technician/lab manager position at UCSF (inner sunset / UCSF)

The Engel laboratory in the Microbial Pathogenesis and Host Defense program at UCSF is seeking a talented and highly motivated individual with a strong background in Cell biology and Microbiology to serve as our laboratory manager and to provide experimental support for our postdoctoral fellows with their projects. The laboratory is an exciting, collaborative, and dynamic environment that uses cutting edge research techniques to investigate the interactions between bacterial pathogens and host cells with a special emphasis on Pseudomonas and Chlamydia infections
Responsibilities include Lab management (ordering/organizing laboratory supplies, basic maintenance duties), Molecular biology techniques (RNA/DNA/protein isolation, blotting, PCR, cloning), Cell culture maintenance and experiments, Advanced microscopy including indirect immunofluorescence, confocal microscopy, videomicroscopy, Supervision of lab assistant.
Qualifications: Bachelor in Biology or related discipline, with at least 3 years of lab experience; Willingness to make a minimum 2 year commitment to the laboratory; Knowledge of general laboratory techniques that include: PCR; DNA, RNA, and protein isolation, cloning DNA, mammalian cell culture, bacterial culture, sterile technique; Experience in microscopy; Computer proficiency with both Mac and PC platforms; motivated and detail oriented individual who works well in a highly collaborative environment, who readily learns new techniques, who is capable of multi-tasking, and who has strong written, verbal, data recording, and organizational skills.
