Lab Technician at UCSF (mission district)

The Krogan Lab at UCSF is seeking a lab technician in molecular biology and biochemistry. The candidate will work on a multi-lab project which will map complex biological networks involving host-pathogen relationships at the molecular level. Initially the project will focus on major pathogenic organisms, such as Mycobacterium tuberculosis and RNA viruses. The technician will perform basic molecular biology and biochemistry experiments such as affinity purifications of protein complexes from mammalian cells, molecular cloning, transient transfection and stable transfection with clonal selection, Western Blotting, Flow cytometry (FACS), DNA and/or RNA isolation and manipulation, plasmid construction, PCR, RT PCR, gel electrophoresis, and mass spectrometry.

Required qualifications: A BS in Molecular Biology or a related science, and one or more years of recent, directly related work experience following degree completion, utilizing the techniques or methods required by the position; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Excellent teamwork skills and the ability to communicate effectively with students, postdoctoral fellows, staff, and faculty. Ability to prioritize effectively and work independently. Computer literacy with particular experience of spreadsheets and databases. Preferred qualifications: 1 year of experience working in Tb or RNA virus research in a basic science lab.
