HLA Laboratory Technologist- American Red Cross (Dedham, MA)

Monday-Friday- Day Shift Saturdays- once per month
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Performs serological, molecular and immunological procedures that include but are not limited to DNA extraction, PCR amplification, sequence based typing, probe hybridization/detection, cytotoxic crossmatching, ELISA assays and other procedures as defined.
2. Performs quality control, daily equipment maintenance and refrigeration checks as directed.
3. Maintains neat and accurate records. Recognizes, reports and resolves discrepant conditions and brings them to the attention of the laboratory supervisor.
4. Assists in evaluating and implementing new laboratory techniques and/or procedures.
5. Maintains a neat and orderly work area.
6. Orders and prepares reagents; performs reagent Quality Control.
7. Participates and/or assists in laboratory education and training. Attends continuing education programs.
8. Provides excellent customer service both internally and externally.
9. Complies with state and federal regulations, Code of Federal Regulations (CFRs) Blood Services Directives (BSDs) American Association of Blood Banks (AABB) Standards, American Society of Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics Standards (ASHI) and New England Region policies and procedures.
10. Meets performance and productivity standards.
11. Communicates with hospital or transfusion facility personnel to report patient findings and/or receive orders.
12. Reviews and interprets final results; prepares reports, written or electronic.
13. Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
1. (a) Bachelors degree and MT (ASCP) or CLS (NCA) certification;
OR
(b) Bachelors degree and CHT (ABHI) or CHS (ABHI) certification;
OR
(c) Bachelors degree and two (2) years of previous HLA experience or molecular genetics laboratory experience, preferably including DNA extractions, PCR amplification, probe hybridization/detection or DNA sequencing
2. This position is in OSHA Category I in view of the fact that the position required the incumbent to work under conditions where the potential exists for the incumbent to make contact with blood or blood components as a result of splashes, spills, and/or needlesticks.
3. Comprehensive knowledge of basic computer skills preferred.
