Genetics Lab Manager (berkeley)

The University of California, Berkeley, is the preeminent public university in the country. Were also one of the leading employers in the San Francisco Bay Area. We currently have an opportunity available to work as a Lab Manager in our Molecular and Cell Biology department.
The focus of the lab is on genetic differences between strains of budding yeast that perturb regulatory networks. The successful candidate will conduct molecular biology and genomics research in collaboration with students and postdocs. S/he will also serve as the lab manager of our research group, so s/he must enjoy taking on a leadership role in the organization of the lab.
Responsibilities:
Develop and carry out protocols for transcriptional profiling using new high-throughput sequencing technologies
Engineer yeast strains with molecular biology methods to test the impact of DNA sequence variants on transcription
Ordering and setup of lab supplies and equipment
Train new lab members
Requirements:
Bachelors degree in biology-related discipline, plus a minimum of four years laboratory experience in yeast molecular biology
Highly motivated and responsible
Excellent communicator who enjoys working as part of a team
Possess leadership skills in the lab and experience as a senior technician with high-level responsibilities
Excellent technical skills in the following areas:
- Culturing yeast; maintaining well-organized freezer stocks
- Yeast nucleic acid isolation, transformation, and strain construction
- PCR, DNA oligonucleotide construct and plasmid preparation; sequencing
- Use and maintenance of pipetting robotics
Preferred:
Experience with the Unix computer operating system
