The Field Service Engineer supports Fluidigm’s customer base on instrumentation, software, and application issues. Activities include system installations, service visits, customer training and phone support. He or she must be able to troubleshoot complex problems within an operational interplay of software, hardware, or chemistry. He or she must be committed to total customer satisfaction while demonstrating excellent interpersonal skills and professionalism. A team player is essential as this position is expected to have a great degree of overlap with various interdisciplinary groups within the organization. The field service engineer performs a variety of tasks on a day to day basis and works under general supervision.

Essential Duties:

  • Maintains and services all instrumentation across Fluidigm’s product lines including electrical/mechanical hardware plus control, analysis, and diagnostic software.
  • Develops proficiency in Fluidigm’s application suite in order to instruct and support customer base on gene expression, digital PCR, and genotyping techniques.
  • Owns communication between customer base and Fluidigm’s Manufacturing, Quality, and R&D groups as necessary to fulfill the requirements of the position.
  • Troubleshoots and reports on field issues at both a system and component level.
  • Identifies areas for product improvement and communicates accordingly.
  • Creates service related procedures and documents.
  • Travel is routinely required on both a scheduled and unscheduled basis.

Minimum desired qualifications: (experience, skills, education etc.)

  • A Bachelor’s degree and 3+ years experience with Life Science instrumentation, protocols, and applications.
  • Proven expertise in employing methods to identify the root cause and subsequent corrective action among various hardware and software issues.
  • Substantial experience with electrical, mechanical, and/or Windows based systems.
  • Ability to present a professional demeanor to our customers at all times.
  • Relevant work experience in a life science laboratory setting a plus.
  • Special consideration for those candidates with PCR experience.
