Job Summary:
The Research Technician is to provide gene silencing, cell and tissue culture responsibilities to lab scientists in support of research in neurobiology. The candidate is expected to perform scientific procedures under supervision; to record and interpret experimental results and to learn to troubleshoot problems encountered.
Principal Responsibilities:
Produce shRNA constructs using DNA recombination and molecular cloning techniques.
DNA, RNA isolation; plasmid preparation
Establishment and transfection of stable cell lines
Western Blot, Immunocytochemistry; Immunofluorescence
Primer designs for PCR and real-time PCR reactions
Purification and tittering of viral particles
Using fluorescence microscopes
Analyze data, create appropriate statistical presentations, including graphs and charts, and prepare and present written or oral progress reports regarding studies.
Actively contribute to laboratory meetings and planning sessions
Preferred Qualifications:
B.S. in Biology or appropriate field of science and a minimum three years of related research and laboratory experience; or, an advanced degree in an appropriate area of science and one or more years of related research and laboratory experience.
Priority given to candidates with previous experience with eukaryotic cell culture
Ability to handle multiple tasks, plan and organize daily duties
Ability to use good judgment and attention to detail
Ability to learn and explore new technologies
Must be a team player and have the ability to work independently
Familiarity with standard laboratory computer programs (such as Microsoft office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint; Acrobat) and good organizational skills are required.
An intellectual interest in the work is a requirement.
