Duke Cell Biology Research Technician (Durham, NC)

By | January 29, 2009

The Duke University Department of Cell Biology is seeking an individual to join an exciting laboratory studying the function of brain stem cells in health and disease. Although the ideal candidates should possess a bachelor’s degree with some biology lab experience, the most important qualities we seek are self motivation, organization, and ability to learn new techniques and help others. Our lab performs cutting edge mouse genetics and in vitro culture of tissue explants and stem cells, and the technician will work directly with a postdoctoral fellow to:

Carry out experiments on stem cell function after brain injury.

Maintain the transgenic/knock-out mouse colony.

Prepare lab solutions/reagents and assist in ordering new reagents.

Be a helpful and engaging colleague in a friendly, fun, and collaborative setting.

Techniques used:

Genomic DNA purification; PCR genotyping; harvesting postnatal mouse neural stem cells; in vitro culture and differentiation of neural stem cells; DNA plasmid construction and purification; protein extraction and Western blotting analysis; fluorescent antibody staining of tissue samples; histological preparation of tissues.

We will train you in all the techniques that the lab uses, and being self-motivated, enthusiastic, and have the ability to learn new methods are more important than knowledge of particular methods. Salary will commensurate with experience and skills.
