Biological Sciences Laboratory Technician (richmond / seacliff)

A full-time temporary (appointment may last up to 4 years) Biological Sciences Laboratory Technician or postdoctoral position is available at the San Francisco VA Medical Center in an academic dermatology laboratory focusing on basic mechanisms of DNA repair relevant to cutaneous photocarcinogenesis. The position is responsible for executing scientific experiments under the supervision of the principal investigator as well as providing general administrative and scientific support for the laboratory. Only U.S. citizens are eligible.

Salary: $37,073 per year plus benefits

Minimum qualifications: Applicants must be U.S. citizens. 1) BA/BS degree in relevant biological or chemical sciences. 2) Prior scientific research experience in molecular or cellular biology in addition to routine college-level coursework (e.g., research internship or extra-curricular research during college, Master’s or doctoral training, or employment in scientific research after college). 3) Excellent ability to be organized and self-motivated, as well as to interact and communicate well with others.

Desirable skills and experience (at least one of the following): 1) Graduate school coursework or degree in relevant biological or chemical sciences (candidate should be no more than 5 years beyond the PhD degree; 2) Mammalian cell culture techniques; 3) Manipulation and cloning of DNA plasmids; 4) Western and Southern blotting, PCR and other molecular biology techniques; 5) Prior work and publication in the field of DNA repair.
