We are seeking a highly-motivated Research Technician to assist in ongoing projects for cancer genetics research. This individual will engage in genetic and biochemical experiments aimed at discovering and validating andidate cancer genes and characterizing the signaling pathways involved in cancer progression. The successful candidate will perform DNA/RNA isolation, PCR (mostly genotyping), Western blotting, conventional and recombinational cDNA subcloning, cell and tissue culture, transfections, viral-based gene transfer methods, and participate in large scale screening studies. This position requires work with animals including assisting surgical procedures. In addition, the technician will share responsibilities for other lab tasks as needed.
Job Qualifications
A minimum of a Bachelors Degree in Biological or Biochemical Sciences is required, preferably a Masters Degree. Prior research experience in molecular biology or biochemistry is required. The ideal candidate will be highly collaborative, motivated, detailed, goal-oriented and possess excellent organizational, communication, and analytical skills. A two-year commitment is required.

Our client in RTP, NC, seeks a Research Pharmacologist/Bench Scientist for a long term contract position. The selected candidate would work in the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology focused on molecular pharmacology and cell-based assay development. This department’s work is currently focused on generating stable cell lines expressing protein targets of interest to treat drug addiction and CNS disorders. They develop and validate new assays and then run the assays to evaluate novel compounds. The ideal candidate will have a strong desire to use data interpretation skills.
Job Responsibilities:
Generate stable cell lines expressing targets of interest
Create expression and reporter plasmids using standard subcloning and PCR techniques
Perform various cell-based assays
Evaluate interim results in generation of plasmids and cell lines, troubleshoot processes.
Support experimental design including appropriate controls
Assist colleagues in experimental design and troubleshooting
Learn and apply additional techniques as needed
Position/Educational Requirements:
PhD
Sterile cell culture and molecular biology experience is required
Strong data interpretation
Significant experimental design and troubleshooting skills are required.

Perform a variety of molecular genetics laboratory services including extraction of DNA/RNA from a variety of clinical samples, florescent DNA sequencing and genotyping, utilization of robotic liquid handling stations, and establishing lymphocyte cell lines. Design primers and optimize PCR based assays. Responsibilities are evenly divided between all aspects of laboratory operations and training for specific tasks will be provided by the laboratory. A successful candidate should be able to work both independently and on a team and have excellent interpersonal skills.
Required skills: Bachelor’s degree in the sciences with some relevant experience required. Computer literacy is desirable.

We are a San Diego based biotech with an immediate opportunity for a Scientist in the Assay Development group for PCR assay development and validation for GLP and Clinical use.
This person will be responsible to independently develop, qualify and validate in house and customer real-time PCR and multiplex PCR assays to measure gene expression, copy number, genotype, translocations and other molecular characteristics of RNA or DNA, which will be used in clinical and pre-clinical quantitative and qualatitative biomarker and companion diagnostic studies. He/she will independently performs assay design, establishes assay development and validation protocol and carries out experiments; be responsible for accurate testing, documentation of results, and evaluation and analysis of data; provides technical and theoretical support to testing staff within area of specialty; researches and implements new methods and technologies to enhance operations; suggests improvements to existing methods and procedures; offers novel approaches and troubleshooting to solve complex technical problems; trains staff in scientific method and testing technologies; employs high level technical expertise to develop new techniques and creatively solve problems; reliably writes and executes well defined SOPs; interacts with clients to understand the project scope and prepares complex and detailed reports; complete other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Requirements: A bachelor degree with 12 years PCR/molecular biology related industrial experience, a master degree with 9 years experience or a Ph.D. degree with 3 years experience. Detailed knowledge of PCR assay development and validation at clinical level and a minimum of 3 years proven experience in PCR assay development and validation is required. Familiarity with regulatory guidance on analytical testing and clinical molecular biology lab working experience is highly desired. Experience with assay development using FFPE fixed tissue samples is a plus. Demonstrated ability to understand and apply complex technical concepts to assay development methodology; detail oriented and strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to work independently, within prescribed guidelines, and as a team member; ability to follow detailed directions in a laboratory environment.

The Krogan Lab at UCSF is seeking a lab technician in molecular biology and biochemistry. The candidate will work on a multi-lab project which will map complex biological networks involving host-pathogen relationships at the molecular level. Initially the project will focus on major pathogenic organisms, such as Mycobacterium tuberculosis and RNA viruses. The technician will perform basic molecular biology and biochemistry experiments such as affinity purifications of protein complexes from mammalian cells, molecular cloning, transient transfection and stable transfection with clonal selection, Western Blotting, Flow cytometry (FACS), DNA and/or RNA isolation and manipulation, plasmid construction, PCR, RT PCR, gel electrophoresis, and mass spectrometry.
